Operations

a.s.r. aims to minimise its impact on nature and the environment. Its ambition is to reduce CO₂ emissions from its own operations by 52% by 2030 compared with 2023. This target aligns with the Paris Agreement and the scenario in which global warming is limited to a maximum of 1.5°C.

In 2024, a.s.r.’s headquarters in Utrecht received the WEii certificate from the Dutch Green Building Council, confirming that the building is Paris Proof. This was achieved, among other measures, by fully disconnecting the building from the gas network. In the coming years, a.s.r. will continue to promote efficient and green energy use. Office space is used as efficient as possible, and energy saving measures are continuously implemented.

Services collaborates with hygiene partners to further improve waste management at office locations. Previous measures include the introduction of reusable coffee cups, digitisation of archives, waste separation and the limitation of plastic packaging. Each year, a.s.r. and its hygiene partners review potential improvement opportunities.

a.s.r.’s offices are powered by solar energy and responsibly sourced green electricity. Any emissions that cannot be avoided are compensated through reforestation projects by Trees for All. To reduce commuting emissions, employees receive access to public transport by means of an OV-card, bicycle allowances and hybrid working options. In addition, the leased vehicle fleet is being electrified, with approximately 95% already fully electric.

a.s.r. seeks to pay taxes in a socially responsible manner and ensures full compliance with fiscal regulations. It acts in accordance with both the spirit and the letter of the tax legislation in all countries where it operates. Tax planning is guided by business considerations, and a.s.r. does not use structures aimed at tax avoidance.

a.s.r. considers it essential to operate responsibly and expects the same from its suppliers. For this reason, a.s.r. sets requirements for its suppliers in the areas of environmental protection, human rights and working conditions. These requirements are included in the procurement contracts between a.s.r. and its suppliers.

a.s.r. does not engage with partners involved in criminal or socially undesirable activities such as money laundering, fraud or the financing of terrorism, as these could harm a.s.r.’s reputation and integrity. a.s.r. applies a Customer Due Diligence (CDD) policy, which requires screening before a contract is signed. The contract management procedures prescribe regular periodic screening. Where integrity concerns arise over a supplier, a.s.r. will take appropriate measures.
