Online tool Nibud and a.s.r. to help young people entering the labour market

Terms of employment? Payroll tax? Notice period? Pension? Filing taxes? A first job can be overwhelming due to the choices young employees have to make for the first time. To support them, Nibud, together with a.s.r., has developed the online tool Sterke Start: Jouw Eerste Baan (Strong Start: Your First Job). Nibud director Arjan Vliegenthart launched the tool on Thursday 30 January 2025 during a meeting of the National Coalition for Financial Health (Dutch acronym: NCFG)

The transition from education to a first job brings many financial changes. The interactive tool Sterke Start: Jouw Eerste Baan focuses on awareness, promoting understanding, and the opportunities that starters have to manage their finances. These three pillars cover all important themes. The (upcoming) young employees thus gain an overview of what is included in for example an employment contract, how taxes, insurance, and pensions work, and how they can gain and maintain control over their finances. With this practical support, financial worries can be prevented, and young adults can make a financially healthy start in their working lives.

Employers can use Sterke Start: Jouw Eerste Baan as an onboarding tool or as part of a broader vitality approach. Employees who are not burdened by financial stress perform better and are sick less often. ‘Therefore, this tool can be of great value not only for starting employees but also for employers,’ says Vliegenthart. ‘By pointing employees to the tool, employers can make the topic of money and finances easier to discuss.’ The tool is free to use via nibud.nl, where more information can be found about the tools and support available to young adults and employers.

The National Coalition for Financial Health (Dutch acronym: NCFG) is a collaboration of companies and organisations actively committed to the financial health of their employees. At the meeting – which honorary chair Queen Máxima also attends – Arjan Vliegenthart will discuss three other tools which employers can use to improve their employees' financial condition: the Financial Health Monitor, the Work Hours Calculator, and the Buffer Calculator.
